UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS CHICAGO
Advancing optics, photonics, imaging, and student development at the University of Illinois Chicago.
Established in 2024, the SPIE Student Chapter at the University of Illinois Chicago supports students interested in optics, photonics, imaging, biomedical optics, lasers, sensing technologies, and related fields.
Our mission is to create opportunities for technical learning, professional development, research engagement, outreach, and collaboration among students across multiple disciplines.
Connect students with research opportunities, faculty, laboratories, and emerging technologies in optics and photonics.
Provide networking opportunities, technical talks, workshops, leadership experiences, and career guidance.
Promote STEM education through demonstrations, outreach programs, and hands-on optical learning activities.
The SPIE Student Chapter at UIC was founded in 2024 to create a community for students interested in light-based science and technology.
Since its establishment, the chapter has focused on collaboration between students, researchers, faculty, and industry professionals while promoting awareness of optics and photonics across campus and in the broader community.
The chapter is governed by elected student officers and operates according to its approved constitution and the policies of the University of Illinois Chicago and SPIE.
The constitution is the governing document of the SPIE Student Chapter at UIC. It outlines the chapter’s purpose, membership structure, officer responsibilities, elections, meetings, and operating procedures.
SPIE is the international society for optics and photonics, bringing together scientists, engineers, researchers, educators, and students working with light-based technologies.
