This outreach event introduces students to optics and photonics through visual, interactive, beginner-friendly experiments. Students will rotate through activity stations using optical learning kits. Each station focuses on a different concept so students can observe, test, ask questions, and connect the activity to real-world technology.
Students explore how lenses bend light and how focusing creates images.
Students test how mirrors redirect light and how angles affect what we see.
Students investigate color, filters, light paths, and how optical tools separate or combine light.
Short introduction to SPIE, optics, photonics, and why light-based technology matters.
Students rotate through optical learning kit activities with support from chapter members.
Students share observations and connect the experiments to research and real-world applications.
Contact the SPIE Student Chapter at UIC for event details, coordination, or accessibility questions.
